Összefoglalás

E mű azt a kérdést járja körül, hogy átvihető-e a demokrácia egy adott országból egy másik, földrajzilag, kulturálisan és történelmileg eltérő országba. A kérdés vizsgálata elsősorban, de nem kizárólag Joseph Ratzinger munkásságán keresztül történik, azt szembeállítva a demokrácia intervenciókon keresztül való átadását középpontba állító szerzők és intézmények tevékenységével. A mű következtetése, hogy a demokrácia és a jogállam történelmi fejlődést tekintve, kulturálisan, világnézetileg erősen kontextus-kötött, azok bizonyos értelmezéseinek vagy aspektusainak kényszer körülményei közötti átadása önmagában is kérdéses a demokrácia és a jogállam párbeszédre, egyenlőségre és emberi méltóságra alapuló mechanizmusaiban.

Is Democracy Transferable? Joseph Ratzinger and the Source of Democracy

Summary

The paper is dedicated to the question whether the rule of law and democracy are transferable values between two locations which are otherwise geographically, culturally, and historically different. If the answer is negative, it is either because democracy-transfer is impossible or, if the opposite is true and it turns out to be non-democratic in its consequence, it may shed different light on the ongoing debates on the rule of law and democracy. The current work is dedicated to this matter primarily but not exclusively through the relevant works of Joseph Ratzinger, his views being contrasted with the works and activities of the authors and institutions focusing on democracy-transfer via external interventions. The conclusion of the paper is that democracy and the rule of law are strictly bound by the contexts of history, culture, and by world views; thus their transferability is highly questionable within the mechanisms of democracy and the rule of law built on the practice of public dialogue, rule of law, and human dignity.
